Jesus Builds

Did you know that we are building a new house? We started over a year ago when we met with the builder to draw some plans. In July, he was finally able to start.

First, he had to dig a huge hole for the basement and the foundation. Then, he filled it with concrete. Next, he built walls and placed the roof. He dug long trenches for gas, water and electricity. He had to install windows, doors, a furnace, hot water heater, electric wires, pipes and inside walls. Later, we will paint the walls and move furniture. It’s taking a year to build our house!

I tell you this because in our Gospel today (John 2:13-22), after Jesus drove out the money-changers and the animals, some unbelievers got angry and confronted Him. Jesus said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

Three days?! It’s taking us a year to build a house and Jesus says he can raise a temple in three days?! … Wait. Was Jesus talking about a building or something else?

Jesus was not talking about a building, but His body. Jesus was talking about His Resurrection. Jesus was telling them that if they destroyed Him, He would be raised up to a new life in three days. He was talking about what day? That’s right! Easter!

Easter is about Jesus rising from the dead. That’s Good News! Do you know what else is Good News? Your baptism. Because you were baptized you get to share in Jesus’ new life. You get to share in Jesus’ Resurrection.

With that, let us pray. Heavenly Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named: Bless these and all children, and give their parents the spirit of wisdom and love, so that the homes in which they grow up may be to them an image of Your Kingdom, and the care of their parents a likeness of Your love. We pray in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
