GOD'S PATHS ARE AMAZING!

It’s October 1st. In October we do things that we don’t do in December or April or July. In October we rake leaves and harvest fall crops. We play football and decorate our homes with pumpkins and gourds. We wear Halloween costumes of our favorite saints – originally. And we may even go to a corn maze.

I mention the corn maze because in our Psalm today (25:1-10), we read “teach me your paths.” Now, if you go to a corn maze or any other kind of maze, like a house of mirrors, you could get lost and wander around for a long time because you do not know the right path. A lot of people take the wrong path.

People take wrong paths not only in corn mazes, but also in life. People explore different ways of living. Some people choose paths that lead to riches, but maybe not God. Others choose just to hang out with their friends, which may lead to poor grades or not making the team. Still others, choose a way of life that does not lead to eternal life with Christ and believers.

Ps. 25 is a very good psalm to pray. It teaches us to trust God above all others; but to trust in God, you must ask God to lead you and teach you. It reminds us that we have to be patient because we cannot all the paths of God in one day or one week.

Ps. 25 also reminds us that God is merciful, and forgives us of our sins. We ask God to do that every Sunday at the beginning of our worship. And when we think we are always right, it tells us that God will humble us and correct our thoughts and actions. Finally, Ps. 25 reminds us that if we follow Jesus’ teachings, we will know that the path of the Lord is about love and faithfulness to God.

So, let’s stay on the Lord’s path every day of our lives, and when we see that we’re getting lost in the maze of life, return to Ps. 25 and read it again and again. With that, let us pray.

Heavenly Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named: Bless these and all children. Give their parents the spirit of wisdom and love, so that the homes in which they grow up may be to them an image of Your Kingdom, and the care of their parents a likeness of Your love. We pray in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
